Is it possible to quit smoking without gaining weight?

Weight gain is a worry for many smokers. And indeed, it is a topic that needs to be addressed if you want to start quitting smoking. You may put on a few pounds, often because you compensate for the lack of nicotine by eating more and more frequently (and we understand you), but it’s not necessarily like that for everyone!

So, don’t panic! There are simple solutions to prevent or limit weight gain, and here are some of them:

  • If you have to eat more, try replacing starchy foods with fruit
  • To avoid snacking, keep yourself hydrated and drink more water
  • Take the opportunity to take more care of yourself: start a physical activity. Go for a run, but not only! You can simply decide to get off the bus one stop early or take the stairs instead of the lift…
  • Learn to eat more consciously!
  • Consult a nutrition specialist or a professional during this period (some nicotine substitutes may help you keep the weight off)
